The project is another example of cross-border cooperation in the field of intercultural communication between the International University Institute (IHI) in Zittau / TU Dresden and the Faculty of Economics at the Technical University of Liberec and builds on previous joint projects on "International Management in Practice" (the winter semester 2017/18, workshop in Chrastava, the Czech Republic) and "Cultural and Economic Views of Interventions into Nature with a High Impact on Ecosystems" (winter semester 2018/19, workshop in IBZ St. Marienthal, Ostritz, Germany). This project turns to the issue of migration, with a focus on history, ethos, economic and missionary activities of the Moravian (Herrnhutian) Brethren in Herrnhut. After all, the Herrnhuters
(i.e. the Moravian Church, formally named the Unitas Fratrum) were based on religious communities created by the teachings of Czech reformer John Huss (Jan Hus) and John Amos Comenius (Jan Amos Komenský), the famous Moravian Protestant bishop, philosopher, educator and theologian. The Herrnhuters were forced to emigrate several times because of their conviction. They subsequently established communities around the world that linked missionary activity and the economy through a specific economic form. The Heernhut community served as an inspiration for participants to identify and explore others groups
of immigrants and to tell their narratives.
The culmination of the project documented here was, as in previous years, a joint workshop for students of both partner universities, this time in Herrnhut. In addition to information about the place (for example, a visit to the Ethnographic Museum explaining Herrnhut / Ochranov's worldwide missionary and economic activity and the church hall), the main part of the workshop consisted of working sessions in the small mixed German-Czech teams in order to finalize the projects, which were ultimately presented to the whole group
of participants on the last day of the workshop. The principal task had been to research a particular group of immigrants and to tell their story. The preparatory phase was considerably extended compared to previous years. Following the initial meeting in Liberec, the first seminar stage ensued during which the working groups began researching and developing their projects. The initial presentations of the projects in progress were coordinated through a joint videoconference, which was followed by the second seminar stage.
The results of the work in small groups were brilliantly thought-out, creative and sophisticated. A wide range of formats included documentary films, lectures and TV talk shows, with topics like Brexit or German-Czech postwar history all highlighting the importance of today's migration issues and their causes. Inspiration often came from the participants´ personal or family stories, which were expansively elaborated. This website aims to convey impressions from these active days and weeks spent creating and implementing the projects.

It builds on the implemented project International Management in Practice and it is a pilot activity for a future jointly accredited study programme of both involved universities, called INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT.
In addition to introductory presentations given by experts on the subject, the focus of the project is the joint work of mixed Czech-German teams. Furthermore, cross-border contacts will be enhanced through intercultural activities and subsequent entertainment. During a two-day seminar, the students of both ecologically oriented IHI disciplines and Economics at TU in Liberec should be addressed and interconnected by the topic of Intercultural Communication.
In order to prepare the seminar and document the results of the working groups, a joint educational online platform TU Dresden / IHI Zittau and TU Liberec will be established to provide future students and teachers of both universities with a transnational electronic learning platform and to facilitate the implementation of future joint projects.
Doba trvání projektu: 1. 12. 2017 - 30. 4. 2018
The implementation of the project mediates - beyond the scope of higher education - mutual acquaintance of students of both partner institutions at a professional level. The three-day workshop with the topic INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT IN PRACTICE will be held as a practical part of a seminar that is taught at TU Dresden / IHI Zittau in the winter semester. The benefit of the project is the interconnection of a theoretical specific seminar with practical implementation in an international environment - with the participation of students from a neighbouring country. Through this platform, both project partners´students will be given space to be able to establish themselves scientifically.

In the Czech and German parts of the Euroregion Nisa (ERN) two important schools providing machine engineering education for more than 3,000 students have existed many years. Both of these educational institutions provide classes of the same or rather similar disciplines guaranteed by significant specialists from both countries. In many cases these are experts of European or international importance.
Within the project an international educational platform for machine engineering in the Euroregion Nisa will be created with a focus on building a structure of equivalent specialisations, defining their guarantors and establishing the educational modules. It should be done in such a way that as many students as possible in both parts of the Euroregion Nisa can be educated. During the project length, partner institutions will select educational focuses which are topical and significant for machine engineering.
The teaching scheme will utilise a highly efficient modular form to minimise the time demands on both students and lecturers. Lecturers will be recruited among the senior teachers from partner universities and among the top specialists in the practical field. The working languages are expected to become Czech, German, or English. Individual educational modules will utilise support tools in the forms of textbooks and data presentations. Graduates from these modules will obtain a certificate of the partner institutions.

The aim of the project is to find out what conditions and motivation factors are available for graduates and potential PhD students in the ERN. The project aims at formulation of answers to questions about motivation of University students for their further education. Through the usage of a questionnaire survey, the project authors will find out what expectations PhD. programme students have for their application of their education in practice and where they see their future. Questions focusing on the employers aim at finding if and what they are willing to offer to such graduates in comparison to graduates from other University study programmes. Various types of companies in the Czech and Polish parts of the ERN will be addressed in order to build a databank of information suitable for further processing. To achieve a high level of validity, a really representative sample of respondents must be approached.
The project was cofinanced from the ERDF via the Euroregion Nisa.
